Wooden Heart: A Charcoal and Acrylic Portrait Reflecting Resilience and Strength
Inspired by the emotional and thought-provoking song "Wooden Heart" by Listener, I recently created a 42" x 48" portrait titled "Wooden Heart." As an artist, I am constantly inspired by the world around me and the emotions that it evokes. In this piece, I used charcoal and acrylic paint to depict myself as a shipwreck, confined inside a wooden heart. The use of these two mediums added a sense of rawness and vulnerability to the artwork, which mirrored the emotions conveyed in the song.
The lyrics of the song speak to the idea that we are all born to broken people and that we need grace that we have never given. This idea resonated with me on a personal level, as my parents faced numerous challenges in their lives, and I was born into their struggle. The line "we only have what we remember" from the song lyrics further emphasizes the importance of holding on to memories of the people and experiences that have shaped us. Memories can serve as a source of strength and comfort in difficult times.
